The Further I Go, the Behinder I Get

The clouds are approaching from the "storm du jour", and I'm still working on the photos.  I keep thinking I've gotten them all scanned, then I'll open up a box and find a couple hundred unlabled photos from a trip from the 80s or 90s that I had forgotten to do.  Sigh.

At least these photos of past vacations are fun to relive.  This past week I've been sifting through mostly a 1997 trip out West.  That summer we all picked up and moved to a small town in Utah so I could do some field work (geological) in the area.  It was HOT weatherwise, and the town was blessed with a few things for entertainment:  a room full of books that served as a library, a really nice recreation center (with an olympic sized indoor pool), and a soda shop.  Yeah, it was a REALLY small town.  Not much to do for 2 little girls, but Lee kept them busy during the days, and we tried to do something fun on the weekends I had off.

After I finished up my work, we packed up and headed further west and north.  We visited the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Lake Tahoe, and Mt. St. Helens to name a few before heading back home.  We even got a chance to go on a whale watching tour.

We grabbed this tour out of Depoe Bay, Oregon.  A  friend had always told grand tales of the pies he had eaten at this little cafe in Depoe Bay, so as we passed through the town, we just HAD to stop.  The pie was good, but I couldn't tell you what kind I had.....but the whales, and sea otters, as sea lions....those I remember vividly!

There are so many stories I could share about this trip, but it would be too overwhelming for one little post.  I certainly was a memorable journey, and we were able to share much of this great country with our girls.

Well, I must get back to work...soooo much to do, I must stop procrastinating.   So, until next time .....

  1. I loved reading this post! What a fun time you all had, even with you working. I'm sure the girls loved it and have good memories. I still have a box of photos to digitize. I look at it now and then... It does take time because we do tend to relive the good times as we sort through the photos. It is always great seeing a post from you, my friend! xo
