Hang Time

Well, it all started with an urge to get away from it all now that chemo and radiation is finished and I have some free time for a couple of weeks.  We're only 2 hours away from the Outer Banks of North Caroline, so we decided to take our youngest to the beach while she was here for a few days.  The weather was predicted to be lovely, so we made reservations at a beach hotel, and off we went.

Now, let me tell you a back story here.  Many years ago, we were on Middle Bass Island on Lake Erie, and promised our youngest that she could do a parasailing trip.  Well, on the way to town, I stepped in a pothole and blew out my knee, so she never got to go.  We've been "hearing" about it ever since, so we decided to surprise her this time and try to get a trip together at Kitty Hawk.

So we headed off to Jockey Ridge State Park, and here's what we found.....

Katie and Dad signed up for the next class.  In the meantime, we took a little tour of the park.

Here is the 1st dune we attacked.  It is really quite steep, and I'm so proud to announce that I made it up that thing.  Wow, what a sight....both the ocean and the bay were beautiful sights.

Then came the trip up another dune with the class and instructors to take flight.  Here's Katie cinching down her dad's harness.

Gangsta fun while waiting their turns
Watching a young girl taking her 1st flight

They made 4 flights down the dune and had a blast.  I have more pictures of our trip and more from Jockey Ridge which I'll share later on, but I thought ya'll would enjoy seeing these shots of some of these beautiful dunes.

Until next time, God Bless ............

  1. Hey, it looks like a fun day out for you all. Have a lovely weekend.

  2. What FUN!!! I can't wait to see more photos now! So happy you are feeling well and that you three had such a good time!! Love & hugs to all!

    1. Oh, Terri, I AM feeling so much better. This past week I've gained so much more strength....not back to normal yet, but much much better. Surgery in about 2 weeks, so I'm working on getting stronger religiously. We really needed to just get away for awhile and try to relax and de-stress. It was a glorious 3 days away....having Katie along was the icing on the cake. Need more beach time and less stay-at-home time :)

  3. so very cool! glad they got to do it!

  4. Oh Karen, Have I had my head in the sand? When you mentioned chemo I was surprised and shocked. Surely hope you are doing better. The trip to Kitty Hawk looked like fun. Glad the parasailing adventure was a success and fun, to boot.

    1. I am doing much better, Latane. Don't worry about not knowing. I posted a little bit about the cancer months ago when I got the diagnosis, but didn't want to dwell on it here, so I've not mentioned it much. Also, Its been a rough row to hoe, so I haven't been blogging much, but the radiation and chemo is behind me (I hope). Now, I'm facing a pretty invasive surgery to remove the tumor and surrounding tissues at the end of this month. The docs can't "stage" the cancer until after the surgery, then we'lll know if I need to undergo more chemo. It's not over yet, but I'm enjoying my "time off" for now. The trip was terrific...just what I have been longing for. So nice to sleep with the windows open, listening to the ocean last thing at night and first thing in the morning. It was so restful and we made so many good memories.

  5. Is there any better place for healing and relaxation than the beach???? I don't think so. This looks AMAZING. Your hubby and Katie are much braver than I would be, lol!
