Last week's Tuesday eve (Feb 2nd) I was taken to my knees by a handful of cashews. I embraced The Porcelain Bowl until that final cashew came up from the depths -- it took nearly 12 hours. A memorable experience, yes; but I tell you this only so you'll appreciate why this picture of cherries is such a happy one. I'm at last able to eat solid and colorful foods. Yes, I am doing the happy dance, and making a cherry pie to celebrate.
Now, of course, the next day, Wednesday, my dear hubby warmed up the leftover chicken and noodles we had eaten Tuesday evening for supper (I wasn't about to cook since I was still limited to 7-UP and jello and lying on the sofa moaning). Afterward, he announced that he felt a little queasy and thought we should throw out the rest of the noodles and all the chicken we had on hand in the freezer, too. He was convinced the chicken is what made me sick. Out it went...3 chickens, and 6 containers of chicken broth for good measure. Safe at last.
Now, as luck would have it, I went to the fridge and pulled out some pickles for his grilled cheese sandwich this past Sunday. They were quite mushy. Unusual for Vlasic, and when I looked at the label there it was..."Best Used By 03/08". Good Grief! Out they went as well as a jar of olives of unknown origin and some bread and butters I put up last winter. Taking no chances. Out went the oyster sauce, too, since I couldn't recall when I had purchased it. The gauntlet was thrown down!
Having cleaned out the fridge and the freezer I went off to the pantry. Here's the result:
Yep, about 1/3 of the pantry went into the trash. No one is more surprised than I to have found cans of food dating back to 2003, but most were of 2007 and 2008. Now, I minored in anthropology, but I never thought I'd go on a "dig" in my own home! Sheesh. Anyway, just thought I'd let ya'll know why I've not been sewing or blogging for awhile. Hopefully, I'll be back in the groove soon. Until next time.......
