Where is "Home" anyway?

Here we are in Ohio, again, and I'm really enjoying the visit.  Although I've lived in a few places far and wide, Ohio is home for me....cold weather and all.

Three years ago this past August, as empty-nesters, we sold our house of 22 years in Central Ohio, and had to move out within 14 days. Through a series of crazy events, we came to the decision to leave Ohio and moved to Southern Virginia 2 years ago.

We now live in Newport News (part of the Norfolk metropolitan area).  This is our 3rd house in 3 years, and we've lived here for 1-1/2 years now.  Is it home to me? No.  I've been terribly homesick, but my husband likes it, and I'm trying very hard to embrace it as my home.

Its funny, we lived in Ohio for so many years, but are just now enjoying some of the fun tourist areas while we here visiting our daughter.  This week includes Stan Hywet Estate...

and a trip on a train through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park,

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Train

and of course, we must visit our favorite place....Grandpa's Cheese Barn in Ashland, Ohio.

So, until next time

  1. Ohio will always be "home" for me, too, Karen, but I have no desire to move back there. Florida has spoiled me, weather-wise. The thought of snow and ice and cold and coats and boots and mittens and shoveling out the car.... no thanks. It's a nice place to visit in the summer and fall. Sounds like you are enjoying this visit, and doing the touristy things is always fun!!

  2. Home is where your heart is. Of course I've lived in the same home now for 22 years and can't imagine living anywhere else. It's nice that you had a chance to visit your daughter and do some fun things. I think the train ride would be enjoyable and who doesn't like cheese.

  3. I feel the same way about Michigan - I've lived so many other places, but my heart is here and I feel uprooted anywhere else. Your trip looks like so much fun!!

  5. Sorry you are homesick. Maybe you can store up some good ole Ohio memories to bring back to Va. with you. Looks like you are having fun.

  6. Thank you, Everyone, for giving me such sweet support. We just got back, and I've done as Latane suggested and have brought my memories to VA. We had a wonderful time. Did everything except the Stan Hywet hall....once the rains set in, we didn't want to take only the inside portion of the tour. We'll have to do this one later.
