Hand Embroidering Again -- my newest passion

So I've been enamored by the beautiful hand embroidered BOMs at Allie's and Jenny's sites.  They have inspired me to take up the sport again.  Of course, I can spend all evening in my sewing room, but the evenings get kinda lonely for Mr. Lee, so I like to come on down and watch some TV with him.  I used to do a little knitting or crocheting during our time together, but the yarn's fibers are hard on my allergies anymore.  It occurred to me that embroidery would work out beautifully, and it does, indeed.  Last night I picked up the needle and floss again.  The last time I embroidered anything was way back in 1986--I can't believe it's been so long!

Last week I cleaned out Mom's old needlework basket and repaired it.  Then, while at JoAnn's, I picked up more threads and decided to give it a try again.  Mom had some old transfers in the basket, so I photocopied them and last night, traced this monogram onto a fat-quarter I had on hand.  This is how it turned out.  Since satin stitching has been a long-lost artform for me, I had to improvise along the way--not too bad, but a little practice will be helpful.  I was surprised how much came back so quickly.

I then repositioned the hoop and drew these little daisies to practice some other stitches. Not too, bad....here's a picture (I haven't removed the disappearing ink yet).

I'm not sure what I'll do with these hearts yet, but I'm thinking they would be kinda sweet on a cotton nightie for the warmer weather that's hopefully on its way.
