Debulking Seams of Knits - Tip of the Day

Knits will curl and that can make a typical 5/8" seam pretty bulky which can be unsightly.  To reduce this problem trim the seam to 1/4" if you're using a straight-stitch machine.  The best way to sew knits is to use a serger, but not everyone has one.

  1. I have a serger, but I've only ever used it in class. It terrifies me. Good thing I don't do garments, lol....and no, I have no clue why I ever got it. It was my last day at the Viking sewing center and the last chance to get 40% off. Can you say IMPULSE BUY?

  2. LOL! I never saw the need for one for years, but a friend convinced me to try, and I use it all the time now. Its great for knit pants...no more popped seams, but sometimes I don't feel like swapping out my machines, and I still use my straight-stitcher.
