The Light is on Again in Ye Ole Sewing Room

It's been so long since I've blogged or sewed.  But, I'm back home from traveling all month, and I'm thinking of all the things I want to share with you.

I guess the biggest news to share is our trip to Hawaii a couple of weeks ago to celebrate our 33rd anniversary.  Yes, it WAS fabulous.  We've always wanted to go, and we decided there is not a better time to go than now.  So we sold the camper and took the proceeds to our travel agent.  We stayed in Waikiki for 4 days, then took a 7-day cruise of the Islands, then spent 4 days on Maui.  We wanted to do it up right since we'll probably not get another chance to go there. The weather! Oh the weather!  Just perfect...no, it was more like....F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S.

Okay, enough of that.  What I'm so excited to share with you all is my shopping trip to Sew Special on Maui.  What a great find while waiting for the laundry to finish!  It was chockful of Hawaiian print quilting and non-quilting fabrics like barkcloth and silks.  Oh!  And did I mention the beautiful quilts on display!  I could have spent a few hours there, but my dear hubby was waiting on me, so I made some decisions relatively quickly and came home with a few bunches of fabrics I can't wait to cut into. I'm thinking a few camp shirts and a sun dress or two.

Fat Quarters

Quilt Shop window at the Sheraton, Waikiki
Quilting is a BIG pass-time there.  There were many framed quilt blocks with Hawaiian motifs on walls in restaurants, shops, bars, the airport...just about everywhere. As tourists are prone to do, we walked around the shops in the Sheraton and the Hyatt to people-watch, and were surprised to find amongst the high-end shops (Tommy Hilfiger, Tiffany, Coach, Saks, etc.) there were quilt shops selling bedspreads, aprons, table clothes, potholders and more.  No lie!  I tried to get some pictures of the window displays, but only one turned out.  Here are a few pictures of sights at the Sheraton...

  2. Will do, Allie, thanks. Your idea of a gift-a-month sounds so nice, and it should be doable. Hope I can keep up and not procrastinate.
